Fayetteville, Arkansas to Missoula, Montana June 27-July 1, 2024

Our big camping trip of the summer! We packed up our Airstream, grabbed Haley, and hit the road toward Montana. Will sure be glad to get out of this humidity! We are using Harvest Hosts/ Boondocker’s Welcome app for our nightly stays along the road. Our first stop was at the Sugar Makery in Glenwood, Iowa.

The best candy shop we have been in! Not only did they give us complimentary candied popcorn, we were able to purchase treats for us and the granddaughters including truffles, bottled soda, ice cream and other fun candies. Glenwood is a really nice community that gives you a feel of what it used to be like living in a small town with everything you needed right on the square. Not only did it have the courthouse, but a grocery store, movie theater, several restaurants, doctors office, gift shops, and so much more. All within walking distance of where we were camping. A quiet night, we will definitely stop here again in the future.

Our next stop took us to the Stroppel Hotel and Mineral Baths in Midland, South Dakota. I had such high expectations for this place, imagining relaxing in a hot spring after a long day of travel. Well, it didn’t turn out as expected. The staff were very nice, but the mineral baths were very dated and HOT! 109 degrees for the coolest bath! We could only stay in the bath about 5 minutes and came out quite scalded. Not really worth the $15 for 30 minutes, but it was a new experience to check off the list.

The next day we drove to Huntley, Montana and stayed at the Huntley Pioneer Museum. We had never heard of this place before and it is quite a museum! They have 10 acres in which they have donations of many old homestead properties, such as a schoolhouse, barns, houses, as well as farm equipment. Inside the museum you can find the history of the Huntley Irrigation Project which was built in 1907 to bring water from the Yellowstone River to the towns on the southside of the river around Huntley. We would stay here again as it was quiet, except for the trains that passed by.

Our last night before Missoula was spent in Garrison, Montana along the Clark Fork River. The owner of the property was nice enough to allow campers a free one night stay on this property, only paying for electric hookups if you need it. The property had a creek running through it and was a quiet place to spent the night.

And, of course, many scenic pictures along our way!
