Spent an enjoyable 10 days in the Northern Cascades area. Temperatures in the 70’s, cooling to lower 50s at night. No smoke or rain. Perfect weather for outdoor explorations! We stayed at the Whitehorse County Campground in Darrington. Will definitely go back. Very spacious sites and a quiet park.

Our first drive took us along the North Cascades highway. Lots of scenic stops along the way including Diablo and Ross Lakes and Gorge Creek Falls.

As we headed east on the highway, we ran into a wildfire and increased smoke up on Washington Pass Overlook. Still a pretty view, but blurred by the smoke.

Stopped at Mondo’s on the way home in Marblemount. Haley even got a doggy burger!

The North Cascades National Park is a bit unique in that you cannot drive straight through it. You can travel on the southern boundary, or the northern boundary. The next day we decided to drive up north to Hwy 542 in the Mount Baker Wilderness to Artist’s Point. It was a several hour drive, but well worth it! Great views of Mount Baker and Picture Lake.

Towards the end of our stay we drove the Mountain Loop Highway out of Darrington to see what we could find. The highlight was a short, but steep hike down to the North Fork Sauk Falls. We were the only ones there which is always a special treat.
